When I was a little girl, one of the memories I have growing up is my mom making johnny crust, and eating it hot out of the oven. Johnny crust is really nothing more than the leftover, raw, pie crust, rolled out thing, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar and then baked along side the pie. It was so much better than pie.
Last week I bought pre made pie crust (I know – I don’t make pie) so I could try out an onion tart for dinner. The onion tart was quickly poo-pooed so I had to change my plans and use up this pie crust before it was wasted!
I pulled it out of the fridge and decided to make Johnny Crust. I didn’t tell the girls. They were both busy and I wanted to surprise them.
Sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar –
Baked at 425 for 8 minutes.
What I loved about this was that each girl, when she passed the plate of johnny crust – said, “OH – Johnny Crust!” and walked away with a piece or two.
I ate most of it.
But who doesn’t love buttery, flaky, pie crust covered in cinnamon and sugar!
