After much discussion, questioning, pleading and cajoling about the ideas *I* had for halloween costumes, Jaia finally settled on being the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland – I had offered up a couple (ahem – better) ideas such as: Elizabeth Bennet (I have a pattern I’ve been dying to make!), Steampunk E. Bennet (yep), Steampunk girl/woman, and a few others that I cannot remember for the life of me now.
SO – I’ve been trying to figure out ways of recreating the white rabbit to please a teen girl.
We/she decided on a circle skirt with a “puffy” underskirt, a vest, ears and white gloves…
Here’s what I have so far…
lol! Now mind you – I need to have this complete for SATURDAYs trunk our treat at dance! OH my. Normally I’d have plenty of time since this is only Tuesday but remember I now work 2 days a week and we have a class tossed in there as well!
We were lent the cutest underskirt that is just a tad too long in my opinion but we may just have to run with it since I’m running out of time AND have no desire to work with tulle in any shape or form.
I finally found and printed a tuxedo type vest pattern for the top. It will be in a red that matches the blue bunnies. I had wished for something with a fun bustle – but silly me! I only bought one yard of he fabric!
Hopefully it all works out. At least it’s for halloween – so there will be no real scrutiny of my sewing ability.
The skirt is a simple circle skirt with a zipper on the back – but the waist band is totally made up – I used no pattern, so it’s a bit wonky where it meets in the middle – and I didn’t not reinforce the band – but oh well.
It’s coming along though and I think it will turn out super cute! Especially since the friends we are trick or treating with are going as the Mad Hatter and Alice!
