Over the weekend

Over the weekend this happened –

This is the last first place she needed to get in order to move from Prizewinner to PC (Preliminary Champion) in Irish Dance.

Irish Dance has levels of dance – you start one time as a “first feis” dancer and from there it’s,  Beginner 1 and 2, Novice, Prizewinner, Preliminary Champion (PC) and Open Champion (OC).

You “move up” to the next level by placing in competitions in each. From Novice to Prizewinner and from Prize winner to PC you have to get a first place in each of 4 dances. Two hard shoe and two soft shoe.

This has been a long time coming for her – The friends who all started dance around the same time as Jaia all moved up LAST YEAR , and a few of them have even moved up to OC since then, but with my girl there’s been a lot of hemming and hawing, whining and bitching, and mom here, getting fed up with it all. Quite a few times I’ve been known to say – well if you’re not going to do the work then quit, much to the chagrin of a certain girl.

In the mean time she made new friends – AND they moved up a few months ago. This, apparently, was the catalyst she needed.  Ever since then – Jaia here, has gotten her head on straight, practiced, been determined and has just gone out there and danced LIKE SHE WANTED IT. {just like mom, (and teacher, and private lesson student teacher),  has been saying all along – ahem}.

OHHHH – She’d been “trying” all along and getting seconds, thirds, fourths, you know – just below what she needed. ALL good places mind you –

but it’s that coveted first place that you need to move up.

In the span of 4 feissianna – 2 weekends worth, she placed first in every single dance she needed – sometimes more than once.  And she danced beautifully. We’ve been getting a glimpse of what she could become.

Determination is the key.

We are super excited!

Bright Blessings –
